Introduction
I have nearly twenty years of experience editing and proofreading general nonfiction and technical publications—mostly trade books but also reference books, textbooks, academic books, reports, a couple of e-learning courses, and some research articles. As a generalist, I have worked with a broad range of nonfiction—engineering, economics, history, self-help, spirituality, biography, memoir. I enjoy the variety of voices, topics, and writing types I encounter as a freelancer. My degree is in physics, and I have studied French, German, and Latin. My editorial experience ranges from working directly with authors to shape the larger thrust of their writing, to doing heavy copyediting or line editing to tighten and improve writing at the paragraph and sentence level, to proofreading as a last check against spelling errors and inconsistencies. With technical material, I pay close attention to terminology, mathematical statements, variables and equations, and data visualization. My current clients are primarily publishers, but I also work for private clients, an engineering society, and an economics think tank.
